WikiLeaks is a well known not-for-profit media organisation. The broader principles on which their work is based are the defence of freedom of speech and media publishing and the improvement of our common historical record. WikiLeaks’ goal is to bring important news and information to the public, uncensored.

Since being founded in 2007 by Julian Assange, WikiLeaks has published some very significant releases, including: the Afghan War Diaries - over 75,000 secret US military reports covering the war in Afghanistan; The Iraq War Logs - the largest classified military leak in history: 391,832 reports documenting the war and occupation in Iraq; Cablegate - 251,287 leaked United States embassy cables, the largest set of confidential documents ever to be released into the public domain, the cables gave people around the world an unprecedented insight into the US Government’s foreign activities; The Guantanamo Files - prisoner dossiers from the world’s most notorious prison; The GI Files - over 5 million emails from Stratfor the US “global intelligence company”; and The Syria Files - more than 2 million emails from Syrian political figures, ministries and associated companies.

Since 7th December 2010 a financial blockade has been imposed on WikiLeaks by large US financial institutions - Bank of America, VISA, MasterCard, PayPal and Western Union. The blockade destroyed 95% of their revenue. Although the US government found that there were no lawful grounds to add WikiLeaks to a US financial blockade, the blockade of WikiLeaks continues.

WikiLeaks requested FDNN’s assistance in fighting this blockade and FDNN agreed. FDNN uses the French national banking system, Carte Bleue, to process these payments, rather than using Visa and Mastercard directly. So, for the moment, whilst we are still able to run this, we are enabling the public to use their credit cards to donate to WikiLeaks.
